We trooped up the steep flights of stairs to the 3rd floor a little disappointed because we thought we had booked a room near reception in the original Sari Bunga and found ourselves at the back in what used to be Bali Subak but is now all part of the same hotel which is in the Kumala group. We had a little chat about whether we really wanted to stay up so many stairs but the room was newly renovated and such good value that we thought we would since the rest of the hotel was full anyway.

If you can get a renovated room in the Subak part I would say that for Rp.325,000 you would find good value. It was freshly painted and boasted new floor tiles and wait for it A NEW BATHROOM even to a new loo and a new botty washer . All so squeaky clean and gleaming. It was actually light enough to see in the mirror! Imagine that. The only small thing I could find wanting was that there was no little towel rack to dry, well, towels or undies etc but I was willing to get over that because of my love for the bathroom.

Downstairs we went to eat lunch. Oops a small problem here. The Kuta Kowboy's knees are maybe not quite as young as they were and one has a habit of just collapsing without warning. Ok apparently going up many stairs is one thing but coming down quite another. They would, they said smilingly be able to move us in 6 days nearer to reception and on the 1st floor only. Ok back upstairs again and another visit to bathroom to admire it again and the KK is flat on his back on the bed because his back has come out in sympathy with his knee probably due to going down 3 flights of stairs like a crab except bent nearly double to hold on to the hand rail which plainly crabs can't do but you get the picture.

I realised that something would have to change so after retreating once more to the porcelain temple for a quite sob I went around to Hotel Kumala who were able to accommodate us for all but the last 3 days. He warned it would be a noisy room due to it's proximity to the building site next door but that they only worked all night occasionally. I told him I didn't care at this point and so arranged to move the next morning and went back to pack our recently unpacked stuff for amove after breakfast the next day.

In summary Sari Bunga is actually very good value for money IMnotsoHO if you don't mind stairs or can get ground floor in the old Subak area. Of course I don't know if all rooms have been renovated.. They are also very big if you need an extra bed
