There are ATM's everywhere so don't worry and don't waste your time taking (eg) US$ as you pay the rate both times you exchange it. Makes no sense to me. Check with your bank about ATM withdrawal charges though.
ps, someone said "most banks dont stock Rupiah", unusual because every bank I deal with stocks it. Also, Travelex etc in every major city has rupiah.
