I'm nervous but up until now I never considered I was doing anything wrong.
If I rent a house for a year (or more) and spend much time in Bali, perhaps 6 months on a social visa, go away a bit and then another 6 months social visa, I am in Bali with a proper visa. I am renting my accommodations in a practical and efficient way for my use.
But this long term rental restriction which is under discussion is a whole new wrinkle.
I'm sure the main thing the authorities are trying to crack down on is foreigners leasing long term and then "subleasing" to another person, ie., conducting a rental business.
It may be that while casting the net to catch the illegal rentals, they are using the "length of visa" vs. "length of rental term" regulation and they are scooping up a few "innocents" along the way.
I say "innocents" because I'm still not sure about the law, but will look into it.
