Woof, woof woof! I am woken to the sounds of a barking dog, it sounds remarkably like the one that has woken us up intermittently throughout the night! Aleesha Villas is nestled amongst the locals houses, so no doubt the dog that was barking was one of our neighbours! Hmmm, I peer at hubby who is doing a darn good impression of sleeping, but I know he isn't, his eyes are just a little too screwed shut to warrant a relaxing sleep! Can we be bothered doing a morning walk given our disastrous previous day? Oh sod it, of course we can! Out I bounce...well not so much bounce as thump out of bed. My back feels like someone has been kicking it solidly for a few hours and my knees are still creaking from being jammed against the back of a seat for 10 hours the previous day! Hubby opens his eyes blearily at me and enquires to where I am going - morning walk time I trill back at him. He looks pained at the thought but dutifully slides out of bed, creaking himself! He is such a good husband!
We head off to the beach and are instantly energized by the sight of the sun making its way slowly up. The fisherman are cast in an orange light and look incredible. I whip my camera out and roll of a couple of shots. Off we trot! PAGI I am saying liberally to the locals, PAGi they are saying with smiles on their faces back to me, hubby looks a little confused - he is not the greatest in the morning.
Back to the villa and our chefs arrive and dutifully cook us our breakfast - full breakfast for hubby and continental for me. I am famished and wolf down my toast, fruit, drink copious amount of coffee and juice and sigh with satisfaction.
A phone call comes from Wayan, apologizing again for the previous day and asking us what we would like to do today! NOTHING I am yelling in the background! Hubby is shooting me dirty looks and takes the phone into the villa so Wayan cannot hear my abuse! Out he comes and tells me that Wayan is going to call over....there goes my plan of tanning. I am whiter than white - I am whiter than I have ever been in my life - even Wayan who has known me for years declared it is the whitest he has ever seen me when we arrived!
I skulk off for a shower, my bathers are still hanging in the same position, begging to be used, I mouth sorry to them and decide that a long hot shower is what I need to revive me. Using the majority of the hot water I prepare myself for whatever it is Wayan and hubby have decided they want to do. Hubby is next in the shower and I am met with furious words about taking all the hot water about a minute into his! I look at the water heater and decide that it must be the water heater is faulty....my prediction was right but more on that later!
Our doorbell rings and I greet a smiling but albeit shamefaced Wayan. I give him a bit of a hard time over the previous day and I joke I will never trust him again - he laughs but it is a confused laugh as in 'does she mean that or not'. Hubby rescues Wayan from me and asks him whats happening. Wayan wants to take us to where he is proudly building his house. The law has changed in Bali when it comes to drivers. Now you have to have a vehicle that is no more than 5 years old. Wayan has swapped his car as it is older than 5 years old to a builder who is building his house. The house is being built on land owned by Wayans family and he will rent it out to locals. It is quite close to Kuta, so it is a really good location for the locals who will rent it. He is so proud - we are too for him. We talk about what he is going to do about being carless given that his occupation is that of a Driver and he said when his friends come over, he will hire a car. It doesn't sound logical or affordable to me, but Wayan is happy, so I am. Wayan has a large group of regulars that visit Bali and who always use him, so I am not worried. He also has the most amazing attitude of that he believes that God will always provide for him and his family. He puts his whole faith in God 100% and I truly admire that. I have often tried to obtain that level myself when I go to Church on Sundays, but with events that have happened over the past few years, I guess I still have a bit of a way to go before I reach the level of spirituality that he has. Enough said.
Off we head to view his house. He is so proud, we are so proud. I whip out the camera and take photos. The roof is not on yet (that is to come on in the next day or two) but the shell of the building and roof is there and it looks great! It is now around 11am and the sun is beating down on us. We have been admiring his house for over an hour while he talks his way around it all. I am not over it, but I am ready to move on, preferably in the airconditioned car with a drink in my hand! Another 15 minutes later and my scuffling feet have finally registered and Wayan asks if I am ready to get going...yes I say a little too quickly and enthusiastically. Hubby shoots me a look of disgrace and I mutter to him that its okay for him, he has a cap on!
Where to next Wayan asks...the villa I say (my thoughts are still focused on possibly getting a tan today)...hubby glances back at me with another one of those looks, and says the words I dread ....wherever you want mate! NOOOOOO!!!! Wayan smiles at me in the rear view mirror, I snarl, I mean smile back! Lets go for a drive he says....we end up heading to Canggu. The roads are bumpy again and I am dreading that it is going to be similar to the previous day but it is not. Thankfully! We consider lunch here but it is rather packed and decide to head off and find somewhere else. We are driving around, we are getting stuck in traffic and I say to Wayan, lets just get back to Sanur and head for a late lunch there. No problem he says...did he really say that? Excellent....I get my way. We head back to Sanur, head out for lunch to the same place we had lunch on the first day we arrived. We cruise the streets after lunch by foot and find the markets. We do some window shopping (well they were window shopping but I was mentally taking notes of the different stalls I wanted to revisit when hubby wasn't around!). We head back to the villa and it is getting close to 4pm. No tanning time again. We jump in the pool and exit just as quickly, it was too cold. We have a few drinks, shower and head out for dinner.
Enter the Wicked Parrot! This place is awesome fun - it's Friday night, the Leprechauns are playing and I want to get jiggy with it! We order our meals. Fish Pie for me, Ribs for hubby - if you have read previous JBR's you will notice that my husband adores ribs - he is a ribaholic in Bali. He is always trying to find the best ribs in Bali. Wayan orders surf and turf! I spot Chardonnay on the drinks list at around 60,000rp a glass and decide to have a Chardie. Our meals arrive we chow down - absolutely delish! Couldn't fault the food. Hubby rates his ribs - I roll my eyes, he gets offended and we fall silent! Another round of drinks he says - damn right I say! Another chardie later, then another and another and I am up singing Hotel California with the Leprechauns! Did I really?? Yes I really! We had befriended Rob from Darwin and he is clapping his hands at my singing and telling my hubby who appears to be sliding under the table that I am really good! How many pints have you had Rob????? Actually I was good - the applause is deafening, people are on their feet screaming 'More'...okay I lie, they weren't on their feet screaming more, but there was definite applause! The Leprechauns ask me which song I want to sing next, but I shyly??? decline and head back to my chardie! Hubby mutters that I need to find new material as I ALWAYS sing that song. I tell him that at least I am game to sing! Rob and Wayan tell me I am brilliant! Well they didn't exactly use that word, but I know its what they meant.
Hubby declares its time to go - he has seen me eyeing the microphone off again...and we bid goodbye to our new friend Rob from Darwin and head home. I am swaying as we exit the car and the security guard smiles indulgently at me! We bid Wayan goodbye...he is saying he will pick us up at around 11....WHAT????? What did I miss? Unbeknown to me he has arranged with Robert that we will go to Ubud tomorrow to Ibu Oka for some Babi Guling!!! I don't do pig - I don't eat pork at all....its our anniversary tomorrow and we are going to a place that serves something I don't eat??? WTF!!! I glare at hubby, kiss Wayan goodbye and then proceed to the villa with a somewhat reluctant hubby following me! I decide to let it go - yes I can let it go when I want to believe it or not....and we head to bed!
More next week...time for me to do some work!
