if you want somewhere 'different' we met a lovely senior lady originally from Australia and she has a house and guest house in the middle of rice fields just on the outskirts of Ubud. It is called Firefly Guesthouse and is absolutely georgeous! So quiet and peaceful and you can walk into Ubud. The lady, Anne, is also the most lovely lady you could meet, well into her 70's but so active you would never think so. I think she would definitely give me a run for my money and I'm only just into my 50's! She has a web site and the photos don't do the garden justice as eveything has grown so much since then, you can spend all day just walking through her gardens. Ubud is probably 'safer' like you were looking for compared to Kuta. She has menus from restaurants close by that will deliver to the villa so you don't even have to leave if you don't want to or the weather is a bit iffy. We found it was cooler up there and there is no airconditioning but we didn't need it. She has an arrangement with a small hotel along the fields that her guests can use their pool and they have a beauty spa as well. The site is balifirefly dot com. You won't be sorry if you decide to stay there. If you aren't having guests at your wedding and it's just the two of you, I would even consider having it at her house the setting is so nice.
