Three years ago a member of our travelling party was admitted to BIMC and slowly deteriorated over 4 days. They then threw their hand up in the air and sent him to Sanglah. Not the international wing but the High Dependancy Unit as got that bad.
Due to their age they could not get travel insurance and we had to come up with >$100,000US paid via non refundable transfer into the medical evacuation company's account before they would take off from Darwin.
When I visited one morning and the patient was in full cardiac and respiratory arrest, right in front of the nurse at BIMC, with all the monitor alarams going off. A member of our party had to make them do something. Less than impressive
