I use 1 cover annual travel insurance although once I did think about swapping to using the free Visa card product but found the policy rules and regs hard to read.

I have 2 friends who have had cause to use this product from Westpac. The first was a serious injury a few years ago and the guy was flown to Singapore and everything was handled promptly and well.

The other was very sick in hospital with dengue and campylobacter (sp?) missed her flight and had to get another. 1st point when we managed to ring them was that if she did not pay for the bill at BIMC with her credit card then she would not be covered. She had but I can see the potential for somebody who doesn't realise this to pay cash or something. We asked them to fax documents to BIMC for them to complete and they said no, didn't have time.

Once home it took 6 weeks for her claim to be paid and of course she was paying interest by the time she got the refund Guess it's good business for them to drag their feet. They also told her that they could not proceed without the completed document that they had refused to send. She pointed out that she was in Australia and BIMC was in Bali and that they had refused to fax the document. Ok eventually it turned out all well and good but she did not need this stress when still suffering from a form of post dengue chronic fatigue syndrome.

Obviously the underwriter used by Westpac cover for over 65s because she is but yesterday whilst in our local ANZ sorting out an investment we mentioned that we are going away for 5 weeks and naturally he started to try and sell us ANZ travel insurance but then stopped himself when he realized Brian is 65 and said Oh, you don't qualify for free insurance once you are 65.

I didn't question him any further because I do not want the product but I am wondering has anyone else come across this with ANZ?
