We have stayed at the Griya Santrian,Sari Sanur Resort
and at Sanur beach villas and return to SBV each year I don't think we are bogans we do enjoy a beer,the breakfast is great and I swim in the pool as for the rooms being basic you can stay at other places and pay $100 a night and they are more basic than the rooms at SBV.
So maybe you have mistaken it for somewhere else.
