If your 16 yo son is autistic and if he gets overwhelmed by sellers on the beach or streets tell them, "anak saya orang cacat" (my child is a disabled person) and i've never known anyone not to immediately back off. My son has multiple disabilities which are not always immediately obvious
Same phrase can also be helpful going through customs and immigration.
If you can't pronounce the phrase correctly just write it down and an Indonesian person will show you how to say it.
