There are different grades of glass available. So dont presume that all premises use a cheap standard glass (although a great deal would, especially budget stykle accommodations). I guess it depends on the standard of the property and what quality they choose to build with. Glass thickness does vary and is readily available and there is also shatterproof glass available..meaning that if the glass breaks it will crumble and not cut you. This is a high quality glass and much more expensive.

I guess another lesson to be learnt is to not go knocking on glass, a door would be a better option to knock on.

P.S. Lenny sorry to hear about what your son went through, very worrying for a mother to have to deal with. And as you said very lucky that he had travel insurance and from that he recieved the special care that was needed in his situation.
