If you bring more than your duty free allowance of alcohol into Australia you will have to pay duty/GST on all of your overseas purchases. This kicks in once you have exceeded any of the duty free concessions eg. alcohol, cigarettes goods exceeding $900AUD.
The duty free allowances are a concession and if you exceed that AND you get caught then you'll get hit.
If you didn't declare that you exceeded your limit you can also be fined and have goods confiscated.
I had a friend who failed to declare a $10,000 camera - it cost him dearly!
