If you are involved in an road accident here, it's the people around you that make all the difference.
1. Try and get your self to the hospital as Ambulances are not given right of way and generally the locals think they are for dead bodies.
2. If you are laying on the ground with a helmet on, the locals will try and take it off you
3. The locals will try and roll you over or pull you out of a car on their own.
4. If you are unconscious laying on the ground they will give you a shove with their foot.
5. Even if the Medical staff can speak a bit of English get a translator straight away, even pay for one, there are plenty on the Island, ask at your hotel or at the hospital (money will get someone off duty to come in), you don't want to get this wrong, some words are can get confused and can mean the difference between good and bad service..
One of the questions on the driving test for cars here is this:
Q. If involved in fatal what do you do?
A. Take body and bury in backyard
B. Change number plate and identity
C. Report immediately to police.
Sorry, but that's the sad truth, these are my observations.
