And was glad I did!
Its well worth the extra travel effort to get to them.
Gili Trawangan is perfect, but Party central I have my doubts????????
For ok accommodation in a good area I recommend "The Beach House" its in the best part of the island next door to Scallywags and Tir Na Nog (Irish bar)
If you like island life then the Gilis are for you,no motorized transport or motorbikes, just horse and cart, push bike or legs.
In the high season its a mix of backpackers dive enthusiasts and rich glamorous Europeans.
On a whole Australians were outnumbered big time but met some great friendly Danish people.
I think the Gilis would be hard to disappoint unless you were there in rainy season and it rained everyday.(or you are really grumpy and a pin drop keeps you awake at night)
There are daily boat trips from the main pier to Gili meno and Gili Air,Gili Meno is so close in places to Gili Trawangan that it looks swimmable (not recommended unless you think life is over lol)
Its up there with my favorite places in the world, very relaxing cheap food/drink/accommodation and friendly locals who are totally chilled out to the max 24-7
I recommend Gili Trawangan as AAA+ for a holiday stop over.
