Agree definitely avoid the large buffet restaurants - not only is the food suspect but the car parks are a magnet for the local sellers. There are some smaller local warungs in the same area - the food is freshly cooked and less expensive than the buffets, and most have an open area for viewing the volcano. The one I was at in October had a rooftop type area with all the tables set out for eating meals and viewing the volcano.
