can be an absolute nightmare. roads will typically start to close down in the Kuta area from around 3pm, making transport to the airport slow and tedious.

i work for a travel company here, and we usually advise people well ahead of time that they will have to leave 4 - 5 hours before their flight departs just to get through the traffic. some people dont take too kindly to this, but we use cars, not helicopters, so we get stuck in traffic like everyone else.

in fact, i advise my large wholesalers that they should try to talk people out of departing on evening flights during the Ogoh Ogoh parade - telling them to either stay for the extra 2 nights, or go home a night early, unless they are lucky enough to be able to catch an afternoon flight.

i would may be do what others suggest. Stay in the Patra the night before you depart, so that you can even walk to the airport if needed. it makes so much sense to do so, and will save you a lot of stress from being stuck in traffic.
