I have been in cars where the driver has paid incidentals and where we have paid them. Never paid for petrol and nor should you.
Its all about finding someone that you get along with, feel safe and comfortable and that you can build a rapport with.
One of my earlier trips and still wearing the "im a sucker westerner" sticker on my forehead (to Lovina), out fishing, leaving me to deal with the driver and navigator alone.
The original price stood.
The only extra cost would be to offer (and if accepted) shout your driver lunch and drinks on a full day tour and
definitely tip at the end if you have been happy with your trip.
