Surfers' Inn might suit. Opposite the beach with other hotels around & restaurants. Reasonably priced place - but far less value than hotels of similar prices in Kuta, Bali.

Don't expect any gourmet delights there. Unless you get a motorcycle & go up the very steep hill to Alam Shanti (maybe have the name wrong but something similar). Lovely vegetarian food with stunning views & delightful ambience. Lots of games & magazines to help you while away the arvo there. Helen (from Yanchep in Perth) runs it. Last I heard she was thinking about opening for dinner, too.

If you're going there to surf it doesn't much matter where you stay as you'll probably have to get transport to Krupuk (?spelling) which is about 10-15 mins bike ride away. Then get a boat out to the break. Motorcycles are easily hired but do be sure to secure them safely at night.

The bi-weekly early morning markets are a must for anyone interested in food.

The Novotel is lovely but expensive.
