check. Our staff are great - the main man has been with us 21 years - but things don't work the same in Bali( as you point out) as first world countries, and staff don't have the same headspace. That's not a criticism, just a fact.( Witness the kids on the front of motorbikes with no helmets. The Balinese love their kids as much as we do but don't have the same understanding about consequences of actions that we have.)
As we are not at our villa when guests are, I would rather not have a pool fence and gate that are not up to the highest standards. A pool fence and gate that has even one weak point is one too much and does lead to a false sense of security.
The villa is lockable so that children cannot get outside before their parents get up and we have four staff.
I understand your concerns but in the end, there is no substitute for parental supervision.
The ocean beach of Legian is 100m to our front, very dangerous and unfenced.
I appreciate what you say but nothing beats supervision. Three of our staff's children have learned to swim in our pool and the rule is they are supervised at all times. It doesn't really work though, so when any of the children are in the pool I will not leave the immediate area until they are out.
Incidentally the only pool death in NZ this short year was a child who somehow got over the pool fence and drowned in the family pool yesterday.
Call me old fashioned but supervision of children in pools, rivers lakes and sea is the best answer.
