used to drive a taxi in a former life and over about 8 years got paid in $US (pain in the bum) refused US travelers cheques, passengers most affronted. Rupiah (not so bad as was going to Bali)then there was the lady who had nothing but Casino chips so what was I to do there,leave her standing in the road at 4.00am? I took the chips and I don't even go to the Casino. Then there was the guy who I moved from one lodging house to another including all his worldly goods and who tipped me for helping him to cart it all into the new lodging house with a very old folding card table. I tried to pay it into the bank later but they wouldn't take it.
Of course people will take $AU as a tip and smile at you but take it from me it's a darn sight easier to get paid in your own currency.
