with our daughter when she was 2 and then 3...
Beach Melati Apartments, Legian (2BR apartment on the 1st floor, the ground floor apartments open directly onto the pool so not a great option for toddlers. The 1st floor apartments also have a nice spacious terrace/balcony). We prefer Legian to Kuta, just our personal preference & it's handy to both Kuta & Seminyak being right in the middle of the two.
Villa Puri Ayu, Sanur (we stayed in a 1BR garden apartment as it was all that was avail. but will be staying in a 2BR "Emerald suite" there when we go again in October). Great value for money & only a few mins walk to the beach.
We much prefer to stay in an apartment or villa for the extra space, separate living area, kitchen etc (not that I cook in it, but handy for making toast, sandwiches, cereal etc for the kids). We stayed 2 nights in a hotel room with our daughter & that was enough - too much creeping around in the dark, trying to watch DVDs with sound at minimum etc! We also stayed in a 2BR Kifaru suite at the Safari Park for 1 night & really enjoyed it but I wouldn't stay more than 2 nights there.
Feel free to ask any more questions, I'll be happy to help :o)
