JBR 3

Saturday morning at breakfast Sarah arrived and we talk about the things we would do that day or at least all three women would do and I just went along with it. I really don't mine walking around with them but I will have some time alone well maybe an hour or two sometime. Most of you that go to Bali have some people that always ask you to bring them something back like cigs, grog and other things.

Well this time my wife was asked to bring back some Joy Jewelry for a friend for her daughter and her daughter. Two bracelets but what the daughter did not do was to check the internet for the cost because they thought it was cheaper in Bali. I think they only trade in three places in Australia and not here on the Gold Coast. The mother of course was to pay for the bracelets and when I checked it out the cost was like $299 each in Aus. So off we go to see what the price was in Bali and found out $175 each was the price in Bali but you cannot pay with credit card. My wife asked me for the money and I said did your friend give you any money for this and of course no was the reply. I won't get trapped again. Could not get what she wanted so had to come back in 10 days and they will be there.

We stopped at Animale on the way but the girls found that the stock there were up in price quite a bit so nothing to carry from there. Had another look around Semiyak and had some lunch then went back to the beach at Kuta to see some friends and have a beer. We try to eat at different places each night unless we really like one place in particular. One place we have not been to for a long time was T J's and now I remember why. I know a lot of people like it but not for us as the food was not that good. One place we did like and went there four times was the Kuta Steak House and Dayu 1. The Kuta Steak House is nothing to look at but the food is good. Over the next three days we went everywhere shopping looking and shopping and I just followed except when we needed to cross over the roads and guess what yes they sent me in front to stop the traffic. Once after a couple of close calls I stopped in the middle of the road and asked the girls what if I got hurt and who would they get to stop the traffic and they all looked at each other and said 'we would get someone to help us' no more said I just kept walking over the road.

One day while leaving Discovery Mall as you know there is always someone wanting you to fill out their information form. We did this many years ago and you know what happens later that night or the next day come the phone call.
I always register with DFAT when leaving Australia and it is a good idea and tell them where we will be. I never fill out the correct location on the incoming form you need to do, I just put Kuta because at some time you will get the phone call. Well this morning my wife filled out one but did not put down the hotel name or the correct name. That night we ate at the hotel around 7 and Made from the reception came to see me while we were eating and said I had a phone call earlier that day and they would call me again.
After trying to get the correct name from him it finally came out as Patricia or something like that he said. Well can you imagine the look on my wife's face as well as Shirley and Sarah? I tried to tell my wife I don't know a Patricia but they would not listen. The rest of the dinner was quite as was the bedroom. No call that night but at 8 in the morning the call came from Patricia and yes it was all about winning a prize so I asked how did you get my name and location and not just my name but room number and Shirley's as well and she still said I filled out the form which I told her I did not but no matter what, she said I did. I told her it was about Time share and I wanted nothing to with it but she would not listen until I said ok I will call the tourist police and the phone cut off and that was that. The only thing that could have happen was someone from the hotel reception had given out the information so I spoke to Umar the manager about it.

It was now time to go to Candi Dasa. I always drive in Bali now and the only rule I follow as my Bali friends have told me is just give way to anything bigger than you and it works.

I spent a lot of time on the Google Earth to get direction from Candi Dasa to Ubud (no problem Kuta to Candi Dasa) and I think I did a really good job and wrote down all the street names as on Google Earth that we needed to turn at and get there, so now everything was in place or so I thought. We have been to Candi Dasa many times from Ubud but not in reverse but I had some idea of the way. I printed out three different copies for the girls to study while in Candi Dasa so they would know the roads and names when we leave Candi Dasa. Now all I needed was a Navigator in front with me to tell me the roads I needed to turn at. No one came forward so I suggested my wife but as you men know when you have your wife helping out with directions in the front seat with you it is not a good option. Now I thought Shirley but no as she has only been to Bali with us once before, so the only one left was of course Sarah who has been to Bali many times.
I will let you know what happen.
