JBR 2
The first day started out well as I kept the girls in the hotel until at least 10 am having breakfast because I knew what was coming. First it was unpacking all the items we brought over to give to our friends on the beach and in some shops where people we have known for years and been so kind to us over the years and take these items to their village to divide amongst their people in the village. After this was done and saying hello to all our friends we head off to Discovery Mall to get the hair cuts, manicure, facials (for the girls). After all this was done we went shopping in the mall but I decided to go across the street and down a little to a shop I always go to get the Silver clove and the Minyak Angin Lang (eagle medicated oil). I have given this oil to a few friends at home and my wife swears by this oil and I do also.
We then went to Cielo for lunch and once again very good. The day went quick and so decided to go back to the hotel for a swim around 2. The only problem here was we had to go past the Kuta markets that we had only been to that morning. I let the girls go in and I sat out the front with two guys who do transport or maybe not as they ask everyone that comes past but they get no work and it does not seem to bother them.
One hour later the girls (my wife Carole and friend Shirley) come out with more goods but hey what the heck. On the way back to the hotel we went by another friends place and noticed his wife standing outside the shop in a pair of blue checked pajamas that we had given her the day before and telling us how lovely there were and thanking us very much. We did not have the heart to tell her they were pajamas. We have always found that they really appreciate what ever you give them. Yes you guessed it we did not make the hotel and now it was 6 pm and they were getting hungry so we went to Jetsens ? not sure of the spelling. This is nice restaurant and just up the street from the Kuta beach club. Shirley loves steaks and they have good ones there so come 7 we leave after 3 each of cocktails.
It seems as though when the girls get in the mood from the cocktails you can see in their eyes 'we ate, we feel good, why go to the hotel) and no more to be said but OK you can shop for another one and a half hours. Most men will know when the girls get tired of shopping and don't know it so that is why I put a time limit on that night. (Remember the supermarket; we haven't got there as yet).
Next day (Friday) we were off to Dr. Rudy (Dentist) at noon and of course shopping in the mall there. He was not there but had another dentist lady who works there now. She was really good and if not better then him I thought. We all just got a cleaning and a couple of fillings each and were really cheap as we always go to him for years now.
Into the mall we go now for the goods we should have gotten at Matahari. Now think about this, why you would go to the Bali Galleria and do the supermarket shopping and carry all the goods back to the Yulia when we could have gotten all the stuff at the Matahari only 100 meters from the hotel the day before.
As a man would do is carry all the goods that look heavy for the girls but when it gets to nine bags I have to say 'hey what about some help here' and the reply 'oh ok' so they each take one bag and I look at them and don't say a word as this is how it is. The girls need hands free to look at more things (anything) in the rest of the mall.
Four o'clock comes and I say I will meet you at Jay Co when you are finished for donuts and coffee. You see we men have to be smart here as all I wanted to do was go to the dentist and then get to the donuts. My plan had come apart somewhat but I was there and the girls were shopping. You get a donut with your coffee so I bought another six just for good luck and hoped to have them finished before the girls came back, no luck but I did get through four plus the free one. I forgot to say that when I left the girls you guessed it they both gave me the bags I had just given them so back to nine for me. All was forgiven as when the girls came back my wife had bought me three pairs of socks, 'that's right three pairs of socks). All you can do is smile and say thanks and wonder. That night we ate at the hotel and early to bed 10 pm as the next day were expecting another friend from Melbourne we have known for some time now, and yes another lady (Sarah).
The dinner at the hotel is quite good and a fair price. We all get along well but I don't know who the best shopper is (its between Sarah and my wife Carole) so I needed some rest before the next fours days started. As on the 29th we all head off to Candi Dasa for five nights. That's right my plan is coming into place. Not much to do there but swim in the pool and rest and just relax. I always drive in Bali so we can go for some drives and just look around. It is not as though we haven't been to Candi Dasa twelve times in the past but Sarah had not and Shirley once with us. I guess you have already worked out the fun you can have with all the locals and the things that are said when one man and three women are always together.
More to come
