I know....more doom and gloom etc etc.
It could happen in Phuket or at home etc etc.
However, this was Bali, and although old tricks, a timely reminder may just help some.

I have recently had a few younger friends and family enjoying (mostly) a couple of weeks in the Isle of Smiles.
Problem 1. Two cases of robbery and/or attempted robery on the streets. One young girl had her purse lifted from a bag, and another felt something strange and prevented the theft, the robber running away.
On this occasion, the girl was with a Balinese local friend (Guy), and this was no deterent at all.
Problem 2. The youngsters had a couple of days at Uluwatu, staying at a villa.
Went to a restaurant, and came out to motor bike with flat tyre.
"Luckily, a "mechanic" was on hand and could fix for just 1.5mil.
Being a remote location, this would be a fairly common trick, and potentially difficult to get out of.
The tyre was of course not punctured, but just deflated....dare I say it but possibly by the opportunistic "mechanic".
Old tricks I know, but timely reminders that Bali is not just about people who want to see you having a good time....there is always someone prepared to take a chance for the quick quid.
Travel safely.
