Although I dont bother to buy USD, I just hand over AUD, currently around au$30 per prson. I will take a $20, and a $10 and $5 (just in case). Whatver the change, it will be in Rp.
If you find it possibly stessful, then buy your USD upo front.

I have arrived on Jetstar flights many times, around 10pm and always found plenty of moneychangers at the airport and plenty of 24 hour stores, eg Circle K still open to stock up on bottled water etc.
We havent found many restaurants open, but have found a bar or 2 for a late night, unwind, drink.
