Just got back from 10 wonderful days in the Island of the Gods. Friend and I stayed in a great villa in Kerabakan (hope spelled right). Must admit traffic was shocking but then its Bali. We had the worst storm I have ever seen and so much rain on the Wed. night, Thursday morning came and floods everywere. I was heading up to Munt/Gungung with Smudge to do a Food Parcel Drop for 100 old ladies from the surrounding villages. It took us 5 1/2hrs to get there as the roads were flooded, road works and then to top it off a Cremation Ceremony, so sat on side of the road for 1 1/2hrs watching, but it was brillant, they had huge cows, bulls & the biggest pink fish I have ever seen. I think it was a really improtant cremation, oh and a huge Stairway to Heaven. This is Bali and although it took us ages to get where we were going, where else would you see this. The people have such a brillant outlook on death, not one tear, all so happy. We travelled on after this and got to Munti/Gungung at 2pm. Poor old dears had been waiting since early morning for us, but all smiles and happy when recieving there parcels of food, cake & aqua. Did I enjoy it, yes, one of the best days I have had in Bali. We went further up the mountain and saw most of our Sponsor children, they were beautiful and so excited to see us. We had gifts for every child we saw, about 100 in all. What a day it was!! Apart from that meetings, eating, shopping and just fun with our Balinese friends. Bali is changing but the people are the same, and I think that is one of the reasons we all love it so much. Once we come home we are back to reality, housework and all the things we go away to get away from. I am so pleased that we can help these people and recieve so much back from them in return. Roll on November when I am back at the place I love.
