I use ATMs for the bulk of my spending and take a few hundred dollars in cash as a back up for "just in case". Luckily my credit union charges no fees for overseas ATM withdrawals and the exchange rate has always been within about Rp100 or so of the street rate, so it's just easier for me - and no risk of getting ripped of by a money changer either.
