We recently went to Bali, we used cash the whole time. Took our cash and put it in the room safe with our passports and just changed between $100-$200 AU a day.

When we were there a girl staying at our hotel had awful trouble with her card, the atm machine ate her card and she was left with no cash, no card and a huge phonebill as mastercard don't accept reverse charge phonecalls even though they told her they do. Her phonebill at the hotel was $150 and she had no way of paying it.... it did get sorted a few days later but this was a really worrying time for her and I certainly wouldn't want it happening on a holiday. My only fear was losing the cash between melb and bali.

I'm a cash girl, easier for me to budget but it's your decision.
