Yes, you can import a scooter from Bali, but there are some substantial Australian Customs/DOTARS and local rego hurdles to jump.

There are about six used scooter shops between Kuta and Denpasar.

You need the engine number and frame number before you can get a certificate from DOTARS to allow Australian Customs to accept the scooter.

My local motor registry will not register a scooter unless it complied with the applicable ADRs at the date of manufacture. The first ADR that affected scooters came in 1975. Thus a scooter manufactured prior to 1975 does not have to comply with ADRs.

At least one Vespa workshop in Sydney will not repair scooters from Indonesia, as they have had problems with dodgy wiring and a coat of glossy paint hiding a welded up chassis.
