Annexe to Solo Trip JBR - Other Legian Accommodations Viewed
OTHER LEGIAN (BUDGET) ACCOMMODATIONS VIEWED
After scouring the Internet for budget accommodation prior to my recent trip, I settled on the Sari Beach Hotel, Legian. Prior to this decision however, I considered a number of other Legian properties. After viewing these in person whilst there, I am placing my thoughts in the hope that they may be helpful to others considering such properties.
(Please note these are ‘my thoughts' & may well differ with yours).
PURI DAMAI - Jl Werkudara, Legian
They call themselves a ‘boutique losman'.
Single Apartment $50US, Double Apartment $115US
Well-positioned, nice pool that runs parallel to Reception area.
Open kitchen & dining area, enclosed separate living area, bedrooms air-conditioned, all have own bathrooms.
Only 8 apartments in all.
Seems like good budget accommodation, especially for a family since there is the luxury of more space than just a bedroom.
GRAND KUMALA HOTEL, Jl Werdudara, Legian
(not to be mistaken with the Kumala Pantai Hotel which is nearby).
250K standard rm, 300K superior, 350k deluxe, 750K family suite, 850K presidential suite.
The standard room I was shown on the LHS of the entry smelt musky & stale. It appeared dark & dated. The bathroom tiles were heavily soiled with mould. I could not get out of that room fast enough!
Having said that, there are a variety of rooms on offer & I was only shown a standard room. I do have it on good advice that a deluxe, renovated room is apparently so much better, though I did not have the opportunity to view one.
The front pool appears only partly full of water, whilst the back pool was functional & looked to being well patronised with a small, undercover dining area adjacent. There is a communal TV room in the Reception building. Good location on Jl. Werkudara.
KUSNADI HOTEL, 518 Jl Werdudara, Legian
Standard rm 350K, Superior 390K, Deluxe 470K, Penthouse 500K.
A small pool, which was quite crowded & noisy with many boisterous children & parents who seemed to have no interest in containing them.
The room I viewed had a dated décor & mouldy bathroom. This contributed to a depressive feel.
Loud music playing in the common area.
Though popular, I found the hotel unimpressive & I did not like it's ambience.
Handy location on Jl Werdudara.
SU'S COTTAGES 1, 532 Jl Pura Bagus Teruna (Werkudara), Legian
Superior a/c room with fridge 350K, Standard a/c (no fridge) 300K.
Very basic, worn & dated rooms but clean & bright.
Quiet location, friendly staff, a ‘puddle' of a pool but close enough to the waterfront for that not to be a concern.
Easy access to shop/restaurants/ beach.
SU'S PRINCE HOTEL COTTAGES, Jl Arjuna, Gang Raja, Legian
2bdrm 700K, 1 bdrm 300K
Basic dated rooms, appears clean.
Bedrooms air-conditioned.
Living area fan cooled only.
Quiet location down a laneway off main thoroughfare.
MAHARTA BEACH RESORT
Jl Padma Utara, Legian
Superior $45-50US, Deluxe $65-70US +$15US high season
Small, cosy, older style hotel.
Tropical landscaped gardens.
Beachfront location.
Nice ambience, relaxing feel.
Rooms look comfortable, though a little old.
Appears good value.
I am uncertain as to the future of this hotel since I believe it has recently been sold.
BALI YARRAVILLAS
Jl Raya Seminyak Gang Keraton, Seminyak
$65US single room, 1 & 2bdrm apartments also avail.
Small boutique style, new complex overlooking a 14mtr rectangular pool.
Situated down a long laneway in a position behind Bintang Supermarket.
Not much personality but modern, new & clean.
THE HARMONY HOTEL
Jl Drupadi 234, Seminyak
Standard 450K, Superior 500K, Deluxe 550K
Modern, small complex of 20 rooms & 12 villas.
I did not view rooms inside, & could only view inside whilst walking past the glass doors on ground floor. General complex lacks a little character; rooms are not very private but appear new & streamlined with contemporary furnishings. Situated close to trendy shopping & popular restaurants in stylish Seminyak.
PEARL HOTEL
Jl Double Six, Legian
Standard $62US, Superior $70-78US, Deluxe $93US + 15 High Season
Well situated, if you do not mind not being on the beach.
This is a serene refuge in the heart of Legian.
Simple, spotless & newish, this very small complex of ground floor & first floor rooms overlooks a central oval pool, situated in Balinese gardens.
Quiet grounds with kids less than 15yrs not permitted.
Popular, (apparently) fab French restaurant on opposite side of pool to accommodation.
I could comfortably stay here.
TANAYA BED & BREAKFAST
Jl Raya Legian, Kuta
Standard rm 319K Rp, Superior 370K Rp, Deluxe 419K Rp
Busy location on main Jl Legian.
Close to shops.
Modern 2 storey building.
Looked clean & basic.
Other hotels, in the local area I also viewed were:
PURI RAJA
Jl Padma Utara, Legian - beachfront
Superior $95US, Deluxe also avail.
Very popular, pleasant hotel with friendly staff. Usually difficult to secure a booking at short notice.
Has been refurbished in recent years. 2 pools - pool closest to beach quite noisy with music & activity.
Restaurant overlooks beach.
Well, manicured gardens.
HOTEL KUMALA PANTAI
Jl Werkudara, Legian
I did not price rooms, since I have already stayed here twice previously. From memory, they are around $80AUS per night... maybe a little more now.
Well situated, beachfront, 2 pools, private meandering pathways through lush tropical gardens.
Arguably too popular these days with a definite ‘loud, boozing' theme to some of the clientele when I last stayed there several months ago and again witnessed this trip whilst walking through the grounds ... such a shame.
THE HAVEN
Jl Arjuna & entry off Jl Double Six, Seminyak
Standard $110US, Deluxe $120US, Villa's & suites also avail.
A year or 2 old with modernistic edge.
Clean, comfortable, well situated, contemporary décor.
RAMADA RESORT,
Jl Pura Bagus Teruna, Legian
Deluxe $200US, Suites $350-$600US (cheaper on internet)
New, beachfront, 2 pools.
Lush landscaping, luxurious, modern, stylish décor & general surrounds.
Well situated.
Recommended, if it fits your budget.
