It's not uncommon for the first Dengue blood test to show a false negative as it depends on when the blood was taken. Retests are generally ordered a few weeks later when the antibodies appear in the blood. Has your wife been retested? I know it can be difficult to prompt your Dr (especially when you say "I read on the internet" it's often eye rolling stuff) but if she hasn't been retested then she needs to be.
My husband came home very sick from Bali in May. Our GP knew nothing about Dengue but he soon found out by ringing the experts in tropical medicine (he's now the practice expert LoL) He was retested and he was positive.
My husband was also tested for Chikungunga which is another mozzie born viral infection with much the same symptoms.
Glad your wife is feeling better. My old man is better but still old LoL
