My brother in law applied 12 months ago when he was unemployed & was rejected for these reasons. We had just had a baby & wished to bring him out as his wife & mother came out prevously to visit & we thought it ws his turn to visit with us. Well the girl @ the office in Denpasar was really rude even telling me to take my family to Bali if we wanted him to see the baby that bad. "Why does he need to come to Australia to visit?" she asked. He was denied a visa. We applied this year, he now has a job & got a letter from employer saying he was allowed leave & there were no problems with getting visa. Got it in 3 days. No other circumstances changed apart from him having a job. So maybe that helped, I don't know. How do you prove someone is a genuine tourist & not a flight risk? If they really wanted to stay here I don't think a job is going to stop them from staying, but maybe they look @ it diferently. Funny how women don't set off the same alarm bells as the men. We have got visas for all of my wifes sisters & mother with no dramas. One of them even got a 12month multiple entry visa & none of them have a job.
I guess you just have to get all the info you can & try. Good luck with it.
