We stayed at Baleka last month in the new block, upstairs in superior rooms. No complaints except for steep stairs. All the gear on hand - mini bar, TV with all the channels, safe, w/robe, phone, kettle, coffee/tea, thermos flask, great a/c, clean contemporary rooms with crisp clean sheets and towels daily. large clean bathroom (no bath just big shower). We shared the terrace with other guests upstairs as each room had their own table and chairs outside. It made it friendly but not intrusive and it was very quiet. There are older superior rooms on ground floor closer to reception that also have a kind of day room attached with another TV and one of those great Day Beds in it. It was clean and well maintained.
The deluxe rooms are like a one bed apartment with separate bedroom, bathroom, lounge area and self contained kitchen - all new and modern on ground floor.
The standard rooms are lined up along the long pool area. It can get noisy along there. There is a swim up bar with the restaurant looking down on it.
Hopefully by now the last of the construction on other side of restaurant will enable gusts to once again walk straight out onto Padma Utara which is handy for quick walk to beach (through alley by the Niksomma Hotel) otherwise its a hike via reception into Rum Jungle Road to get to beach.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Nice gardens & Staff very helpful, free WiFi in lobby and restaurant and very central to restaurants, shops, cafes, spas, tailors. The restaurant music can get abit overpowering but staff happy to turn right down and the other guests had no problem with that.
Great exchange rates at bank as you walk from reception toward Jl Legian about 100m. Open till 10pm!! We even booked a couple of tours with them and had a great driver giving running commentary all day.
We only had breakfast here once. We tried a new place each morning - tommy's, puri raja, blue ocean, zanzibar, ku de ta.
Haven't stayed at Grand Sinah but reviews look favourable and its more centrally located.
Adika Sari is also an option. It looks really nice and its near Grand Sinah.
Enjoy.
