Everything is Water Based. Not sure on your sons reasons for not wanting to go, but he'd be the first 14yr old I've ever heard of that wouldn't thorougly enjoy it. There are a few scarier rides for sure and the water slides range from very tame to very fast. But something more for the parents might be the Tube ride. It's a rather relaxing ride that doesn't require too much effort nor do you even need to swim. You'll find everybody from 1 yr old to 60 or more sitting back and letting the current take you around the fairly large circuit. You could literally spend an hour on it. But then saying that, at any one time there are plenty of parents, even grand parents going crazy on the other rides. It's pretty much an all ages park, but of course if you don't like water then you'll be pretty bored.
