There are a number of zoos that keep turtles in terrible conditions.

The good one is the Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) on Serangan Island. It can be reached by road.
Be careful to check the signage of any place you are directed to as there are other marine animal places in the area.
TCEC collects eggs, hatches them, and releases the turtles in the sea.
Some turtles are kept for educational purposes but only until they are about 8 mths old and then they also are released.
A couple of turtles are permanent guests because TCEC found them so badly wounded they have no hope of survival in the wild.
TCEC are involved in a number of other turtle conservation initiatives.
TCEC is respectful towards the turtles they care for so your grandchildren won't be able to pick the turtles up or touch them, but they'll learn a lot and i think this is what you are looking for :)
