to relax and do things in your own time. Previously stayed in Jimbaran/Nusa Dua area, but tried Candi Dasa three weeks ago. Much smaller resorts, but comfortable and more personal. Staff knew our names by second day.
Great restaurants, being Vincents, Toke, Janger, Balissa and Astawa. Many more that we'll try next visit.
Shopping limited but no pressure. Stock similar but different from Kuta/Legian.
Beaches aren't great but good swimming and snorkelling in close. Local boatmen will take you out for offshore snorkelling or fishing, and to White Sands Beach. Also several dive operators.
Trekking trips available through rice paddies and villages. Rafting, Safari Park, etc probably closer than from Kuta. Day trips to Amlapura (markets), Water Palace, Amed and others. Several transport operators in town, and prices very reasonable (250k for whole day).
All up, a good relaxed place.
