We got back at 2am this morning & I'm feeling that strange feeling you get when you first get home. And I'm cold!
14 July 2010
This was a week in Bali for my 16 year old daughter & I. If you're looking for JBRs on tours & travel, stop now, this is shopping, eating & pampering!
This was the 4th trip to Bali for both of us, but Miss 16 (I'll just call her K) had been in December with family friends, while it's been 5 years since my last trip!
We flew Jetstar for the first time on a 9.30 am flight from Perth. Is it just me or are Jetstar's seats extremely uncomfortable? Flight was fine, arrived on time, about 1pm. Took
about an hour + to get through Immigration & while I appeared quite patient, Miss 16 wasn't so patient. Should've checked into the v i p thing before I went! We got through eventually, I always
knew we would!
Taxi to Kumula Pantai (60,000 rp). Dumped our bags & had lunch down the road at Flying Piano. I'm hopeless with directions so I can't you more than 'down the road from the hotel'!!
I haven't written down prices but none of our meals were especially expensive & all of them were good. Well, sort of. I apparently wrote what we ate for this meal, but that
didn't last! I had Nasi Campur and K had Pork ribs.
Went for a walk along the beach and then it was pretty much dinner time!!
We ate at La Monde as we have eaten here a few times before. I've spent the last 5 years craving their Ginger Chilli Fish, and it was as good as I had hoped. K had a kids spag bol.
When we last went to Bali together 5 years ago, our habit was to have a fruit platter or a desert (for her, nuther drink for me!) at a different place, so we did this again on our
first night. She had some chocolately thing at Drops & I had a drink. Looked awesome & the staff were lovely.
Back to KP for bed.
Thursday, Day 2
I woke up early in the morning to have to run to the bathroom & throw up! No, it wasn't the extra drink! I think it was MSG in my meal, because I've had
that experience before. I didn't have any of those griping stomach pains, so I can't claim Bali Belly. All too much info? Sorry! I was fine after 2 or 3 rushed visits
to that bathroom, but decided just to have a piece of toast for breakfast, which is a shame, it all looked pretty good & K enjoyed hers.
I had arranged for Cintya (tailor) to meet us in our room to get some stuff made. Thanks to the person on here who recommended her, I'm sorry I don't remember who it was.
She was great! We had a few things made, and all were copied from items we brought with us. I had a jacket & pants made, K had a jumper & 2 jackets and I also had some school sports
shorts copied for my son. Also had a pair of my boots copied twice. The total cost was 3,853,000 rp. I won't convert it, it sounds better in rp! I don't know if this is good or
not, but I know I've used different tailors in the past, and it's much more pleasant to arrange this stuff in the air conditioned comfort of my own room! I'll tell you later
how they turned out, but for now I can say that Cintya and her sister Leah were lovely people.
When Cintya and Leah left, we headed to Ketuts for some shopppppping!! She said she remembered us, but I always wonder if they do or not. She said she recognised our faces. Her
shop was packed with people, in 2005 I think there were only us in the shop! Bought a few bits & pieces, couple of things for my son & K bought some too. It's always great to go
to Ketut early, to get a feel for what to pay for things.
Left Ketuts & wandered around to soak up the Bali atmosphere and had lunch at Wayan and friends. I had mie goreng, K had a sandwich of some sort (didn't write it down & can't
remember!) Was all good tho.
Went to Matahari. Saw a girl sitting with her feet in the Fish Foot therapy tank! K had seen this in December & she was coaxing me to stick my feet in too. Funny, having read
about this on here I had thought yep, sounds great, but for some stupid reason I didn't expect to see the fish!!!! Anyway, it was 100,000rp for 20 mins and we walked on. I was
looking for some Revlon products, a particular lipstick & eye liner, neither of which they had. I got 2 lippys in a different colour, but K managed to find a ton of make up
she liked! Oh, I got a blush too.
Taxi home, but stopped off to buy a couple of Bintang towels, as KP towels were hard to come by. K bargains well!!!
Had a swim & chilled by the pool. Had dinner at KP, I had satay & K had pasta, was good.
We went for a walk after dinner & ended up with our feet in one of those fish tanks!!!!!!!! It was only 50,000 for 20 mins (at most places other than Matahari). Don't ask
where we went, but I'll recommend a good spa later. Cafe Seminyak for fruit platter.
This is going to get too long if I keep going, so will do more tomorrow.
