I have found that I can get through in around 30 - 45 minutes at around 6am WA time, as opposed to a couple of hours later on.
You need phone on speaker, and go about other business, as the girls voice (every 30 seconds!) and the music will drive you mad!!
You should be able to have the fares held as a credit for future travel (within 1 year I believe), or as a minimum claim the taxes only back AFTER the flights have been completed.
