Jalan Hassanudin, not too far from the main DPS market and close to "material Street" (Jalan Sulewesi)
Take a pen and paper as it can get confusing trying to compare one shops pricing with another.
Focus on say.....70% pure (this will be marked on tags) This is somewhere just over 16.5 carat, so much better than the 9 carat stuff commonly sold in Aus.
Staying with one % of gold will make comparison easier.
Ask what the per gram price is for 70% and most shops will be selling at this level.
You can then easily work out the price from the grams and purity as marked on the tags, and don't have to ask all the time.
Your price will be half (approx) what you would pay for 9 carat in Aus.
If you have "old gold", take that alsong and get pricing from the ladies sitting on stools outside all the shops.
They will evaluate and pay cash on the spot, and this may help with your purchase.
I have never found anything "slippery" about either the quality or the buying process of jewellery in Jalan Hassanudin, having dealt there many times.
