how strict are AA on over weight bags??

will be flying with them for the first time in a couple of weeks, and we will be bringing some more of my wife's stuff back from Bali (recently married). i have booked the oversize baggage (30kg each) but now she is pregnant we are planning on bringing a few things back for the babe. so the plan was to post some things back or take our chances at the check in counter because i know we will be overweight LOL, i usually fly garuda and never had a problem with a few KG over.
