Arrive on Qf and walk to the small terminal building down a path lined with frangapani trees. Transferred to Kuta Beach Hotel( right on Kuta beach - 32 rooms in large grounds ( now Inna and completely rebuilt)
On the corner where the Hard Rock is was Wayans juice bar and restaurant where they could knock you up a juice in as little as half an hour.
Jalan Pantai had a couple of restaurants and some shops but mainly just block boundary walls. Bemo corner was the hub and things were humming all the way to Poppy's lane where it all finished.On the other side of bemo corner the place buzzed for a good 200m. The Pub was on the opposite side of the road near all the magic mushroom shops, Mades Warung was hopping and Poppies. There were some other restaurants too but the food was lousey.
The time was one hour different then so it was dark by about 5.30 and best to get out early as everything closed at 10pm.
Then the walk home down dark Jalan Pantai being trailed by a pack of 20 plus dogs - slowly closing in. Every 50m or so you had to turn, face, shout and make stone throwing motions to send the curs away.
Kuta beach was swarming with at least 100 tourists and beer was 500 Rupiah a bottle. Exchange rate 500 to NZD.
Very healthy lifestyle as the hotel restaurant and bar were also closed so early to bed and early to rise etc.
