Hi Toby,
I have flown Air Asia a number of times. My first trip with them was last year, to Malaysia then on to 3 different places in Thailand, back to KL then home to Perth. I was impressed by the service, staff and most importantly the price paid on a suer special they were running (all flights and extras were just under $500.00 total). Of the 6 flights in this trip only 1 was delayed and that was because of a monster thunderstorm in Bangkok.
The food is similar to any economy class fare that you will get on a full fare airline, you just have to remember to pre-order if you want it because there isnt always a lot of spares.
I also flew AA to Bali in January this year....... same great service, staff and prices and both flights landed half an hour early after taking off on time.
I'm off to Bali with them again at the end of September with 2 of my boys :)
I will fly Air Asia any time, to me it isn't any different than a full-fare airline as long as you don't mind paying a few bucks for drinks and eats if you want them and pre-pay your checked bags.
