I assume the Strategic flights will be the same as the Skywest flights.
What will happen is your domestic flight will land at Port Hedland airport and everyone gets off. After you've waited for your bags to be unloaded you collect them the single carousel that's there. You then take your bags and check in (again)before boarding the same plane you just got off.
Something that's worth noting at this point is a tax refund counter is available, but you have to ask! If you have spent more than $300 on the one receipt within the previous 30 days and produce the item you can claim your 10% back. They don't like it because it creates more work for them, but if you insist they will get the paperwork out for you.
On the way back, the same applies. You get off the plane...stand around waiting for your bags to be unloaded, pass through customs as you would at home normally (except there's only two counters available) Once through customs, you check your bags back in and board the same plane.
The Skywest plane is a Fokker ?(2 seats of one side and three on the other) and it takes about an hour or so to get through. Not too bad really as it's a quiet airport and yours will be the only plane there.
