$18 skybus into the city takes 20mins. Depends on time of day your talking about but you can just walk and explore the little lanes and alleyways of the city, walk southbank and find a great restaurant to have a drink and relax. Go on a tram ride around the city for free, or go to Carlton or StKilda. You could also hire a car for less than $40 for the day and go further out to places like Geelong or the Dandenongs, or along the Bayside suburbs. There are great places within an hour from the city, even go to a football game if on a weekend or the movies. I dont live in Melbourne but love the city and go there often for the football!! Dont waste the time sitting in the airport when you have so much to do....:)
