Hi!
We arrived Sat night, immigration was busy but we still got through OK. Lucky to be near the front of the line I think. We spent our first night at Masa Inn then checked in to Villa Mahkota on Sunday. It was every bit as gorgeous as the internet photos. Some people don't like the location but it was great for us, tucked in behind Bintang supermarket, and we had bikes which made it easy to zip down to the beach etc. The staff were great - nothing too much trouble. We'd call and they'd deliver crates of Bintang at supermarket price.
Monday we were picked up by Bali Exotic Weddings to go to the consulate to get the papers we needed for the legal wedding ceremony. Unfortunately it was the Queens Birthday public holiday in Australia, so the consulate was closed! All it meant was we had to go back the next morning. Bali Exotic Weddings were fantastic. Everything was fabulously stress-free. The hair and make up girls were exceptional. Ours was only a small wedding with 8 guests. The ceremony and reception dinner was at Gado Gado Restaurant and we can't fault it. Everyone agreed it was one of the best meals they'd ever had, and the service here was also outstanding. I am still beaming at how perfect everything turned out. I must admit I was an easy-going bride. I gave a vague description of what flowers i wanted, and a vague description of the cake to Ixora Cakes ... and just sat back to see what I'd get. I loved everything!
The wedding was also a surprise for our guests. We told them the day before and one of the guys managed to organise a buck's night to end all buck's nights. In 2 hours he'd arranged a bonfire on the beach complete with beach bar and a 5 piece bongo drum band. This was not far from Ku De Ta (I don't think the DJ there would have been that impressed with the noise) but i think most of the Ku De Ta patrons were really enjoying the band on the beach!
All in all a fabulous holiday. I don't think we had one dud meal. We had fabulous steak at Yut's, friends went to Queens Tandoor and loved it, La Lucciola and loved it. We had breakfast at Cafe Moka and loved it, breakfast at Grocer & Grind and loved it. Indo-National, loved it. Probably the weakest link was Havana Bar in Poppies 1.
My new husband also did a 'spring roll tour' and ordered these everywhere we went, then gave them a score out of 10. The winner was the bar with the floating lounge chairs in the mangroves on Nusa Lembongan (sorry can't remember the name) ... it's adventure to hunt this place out but the Lumpia is well worth it when you get there!
