In Oz all optical shops will test your eyes for you using your Medicare card so you pay nothing. Be sure to ask for your prescription. Sometimes they put the pressure on to buy but for seasoned Bali travellers like us no problemo. OPSM or wherever get the $ for the test anyway.
In Bali I don't know. Maybe you would need to buy at least frames to have your eyes tested for free at Optik Seis, Melawi or wherever.
As for Mr Honeyman travelling to Sanur I dunno - Canggu is probably not a goer but you could always arrange to meet him at Bintang, I guess. Call him. I lost his receipt showing his email address, dammit - maybe someone else here has it.
Not sure where I bought my frames for my clear specs - either Optik Melawi or Optik Seis in Bali Mall Galeria - we went there to go to the dentist & checked out the Optik shops as we were early. Later in the evening we walked along the beach path from Poppies 1 to Centro & checked out the Optical shops there. It really depends on what you like, of course. Probably worth checking out the shops in Kuta Square, too. My Hugo Boss were reduced from Rp1.6million with an extra discount for cash. The only pair I found that liked - & back home I am told that I am in advance of fashion!!! Me!! LOL.
Good luck - let me know if you want any more info:)
