Day 1: We met up with our friends and went out to Care forre for supplies. Jumped in the usual sky coloured taxi. Got about 400m away from the shops, the driver then pulled over on the side of the road, said there was trouble ahead, but he would find out what was going on. A few moments later, some protestors drove past, waving flags and honking horns etc. Driver gets out, talks to another driver, comes back and says we have to get out and walk! So there we are, me with my dickie leg, on rough uneven ground, walking along Jl Sunset, wondering what the just happened. We found out later from another driver, that it was the local Balinese drivers protesting about the Javanese owned sky coloured taxi's being allowed to run thier taxis without regulation and proper taxi licences. Most taxi's are alright to catch, just make sure before you get in, that the meter is on(or ask for it to be switched on)and make sure they don't try and take you the long way!
Well, we had lunch at the green garden resturant after a recomendation from my parents. Resturant was not busy(warning)but we thought 'Hey, she'll be right'. Four of us ordered Mixed Chicken satay and rice. Little Red ordered fish & chips. That night, all four of us started to have rumblings in our tummies! OH NO!
A doctor once told me, that if you vomit, whatever is left undigested in your stomach, is generally what caused you to be sick. Bingo, rice baby rice! I didn't know you could get BB from rice! A Balinese friend later told us, that when some resturants aren't that busy, they can keep boiled rice for several days unrefriderated! So the next few days we soldiered on(thank goodness for the anti-biotics we bought from home just incase).
We ordered some quilts from bali bedcovers & guitars down Poppies 1. Ordered some leather boots to be copied from a picture I bought from home at a leather taylors on Poppies 2. Did lots of shopping, picked up some great nick nacks here and there. Discovery mall was having a big sale , so that was good.
We ate at some great resturants here's my favourites:
The Brasserie at the Bali Rani Hotel. The best ribs I have ever eaten, nice Crispy duck. Really nice cocktails. and not too expensive.
Uncle Norm's on melasti. Yummy satay, and try the sefood spring rolls, YUM. Oh, and don't forget to have a Bailey's smoothie!
Tj's on Poppies one. Best Fjitas and 9/10 Margaritas
Indo-national Jl Padma
Legends
Billy's Food was nothing special, but the cocktails were good. And the staff were funny. ohhh, try the Billy 69!
Yutz's 10/10 frozen margaritas
Havana Club huge portions, nice atmosphere, yummy food.
Bubba Gump Shrimp always a hit.
One thing I did notice this time, is how much the prices have gone up in 18mths. Food especially. We averaged About $50 for dinner and a few drinks for three of us. The most expensive meal we had was Bubba Gumps, but that was nice, and servings were huge.
One place I won't be going back is Kori's on poppies 2. It has gone down hill since the last time I was there. Very expensive($120 for three girls incl only one cocktail, and a Bali cider)and the inestinal tract was still in my expensive prawns, and they forgot some main elements on my dish and my friends.
Day 5 we went out to the Safari Park, stayed there over night...TBC
