For your enjoyable JBR's and for "paying it forward" a theory I too subscribe to, and it doesn't matter how you do it (as in charity work or $$ or any other way), what matters is that you do.
I think most people who truly love Bali would find it difficult to express in words why it is such a magical and therapeutic place but I too feel that and that is why I choose to spend so much time there...
Sorry to hear you weren't well on your return home, however better at home than in Bali!!
