their child was not one of the "stupid" ones (me included) who went on to be proved wrong. It has been well documented that adolescence does not end until well into the 20s as the brain actually has not finished developing until then. Kids take risks at this age because they not only don't have the emotional maturity, they also don't have the physical brain maturity. The difficulty is that they don't consider what they are doun as risky until something goes wrong. And they all seem to need to learn the lessons the hard way - for themselves. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them - they have to learn for themsleves... and some are slower learners than others!
