As most of you probably know my daughter & her best friend are currently in Bali. They were interested in doing a lot of different sort of activities that we have never done or would ever been inclined to.Together we did research on BTF & through various websites & booking agencies about the activities that they were interested in.As a result a lot of info was typed up before they went with details on web pages & contact phone numbers that they would follow up & do bookings through after they arrived.
One thing the girls did mention to me that we ran out of time to check outbefore they left so they asked me would I look into for them was the glass bottom boats trip - which I only recently found out go to Turtle Island/Serangan.I also knew very little about place except that a Turtle Conservation Centre that was involved with the WWF was there which sounded rather positive. When I found out the info I was asked to sms or email it to the girls.
Thanks to checking the BTF archives I found out that the glass bottom boat tours go to these so called Turtle farms/sanctuaries & from what I have read certainly have far from ideal conditions for the Turtles I understand that they even allow people to handle & sit on the Turtles, many of which have barely have even water in their enclosures to live in.
I know that as animal lovers the girls would very likely be angry & probably in tears if they saw any animal living in these sort of conditions & would not wish to support or encourage this sort of place. Therefore I am grateful that I checked BTF archives & Mic's pages to get the facts. Thanks to everyone for their honest reports.
I might be naive but I thought these Turtles were endangered animals & as such due some sort of respect. If they have the time I will be encouraging the girls to go to the Turtle Conversation & Education Centre instead.I know that after I contact them with the information I have found out that the glass bottom boat trip that goes to a Turtle farm is one place that they will be crossing off their list!
