Interesting travel article in last Saturday's West Australian newspaper
The author of the article, Steve Lague, paid for his accommodation at the Legian Beach Resort. Bali, in USD currency. The USD $1500 cash was refused. The receptioniste explained that Indonesian banks would not accept the notes because of the high quality of USD counterfeit notes issued pre 2003. Particularly for the years 1996 and 1998.
Mr Lague had purchased the notes in Australia from Travel Money, and Travelex. Most were the 1996 series.
It was only after the hotel had long talks with their bank that the bank agreed to accept the notes on condition the bank could check their condition and put them through a machine designed to detect forgeries.
It took a further two days for the bank to approve the notes ''
